Kitchen Witchery: Simple Banana Berry Smoothie for Success

What’s better than a smoothie in the morning to give your body just what it needs to wake up and get going? This Banana Berry Smoothie for Success is the perfect addition to your morning smoothie rotation to help get your day off to a magically delicious start.

Spring is the perfect time to jump into some new goals with motivated and focused energy. This smoothie is here for you! Packed with vitamins and energetic properties for success, perseverance, energy, and luck, it’s sure to become one of your favourites.

So let’s get into some of the benefits this smoothie contains, both nutritional and magical.

Banana Berry Smoothie: The Health Benefits

These ingredients are super simple and jam packed with nutrition.

Berries (fresh or frozen)

  • Rich in Anti-oxidants

  • Excellent source of fibre
  • Improves digestion
  • Contains multiple vitamins and minerals

Almond Butter (all natural and no added oils)

  • Vitamin E
  • Calcium
  • Healthy Fats

  • Phosphorous

Ceylon Cinnamon (known as ‘true cinnamon’ and packs the most health benefits)

  • Another amazing source of anti-oxidants
  • Anti-inflammatory
  • Lowers blood sugar
  • Heart healthy
  • Has anti-bacterial & anti-fungal properties

Whole Rolled Oats

  • Omega 3 Fatty Acids
  • Protein

Spinach (fresh)

  • Folate (B9)
  • Iron
  • Anti-oxidants
  • Calcium
  • Heart healthy

Vegan Protein Powder

  • Being vegan, I like to get this extra protein boost into my day.
  • I use Genuine Health Organic Fermented Vanilla Protein Powder or Form.  They are both delicious and with no funky additives.
  • Be wary with protein powders as a lot of them have ingredient lists as long as your arm. Try to buy high quality if you are going to use one.
  • Another alternative I like to use is pure Pumpkin Seed Powder. It comes only unflavoured and is honestly pretty tasteless lol.

Smoothie Notes

  1. I don’t use any additional sweetener. However, you can add a medjool date, maple syrup, agave, or date syrup if you’d like it on the sweeter side.
  2. People have varied tastes when it comes to smoothies in regards to how thick they like them. This recipe is exactly how I make mine. Feel free to add more, or less, liquid/ice to get your desired thickness.
  3. Different protein powders WILL change the taste. The Vanilla Genuine Health one that I use is the absolute best tasting I have found, EVER. And by a lot. You can also omit the protein powder entirely. Maybe add a little vanilla extract or kefir to the mix if you omit the powder.

Easy Lemon Lavender Loaf for the Spring Equinox

We are just one week away from the Spring Equinox, Ostara, and I’ve had those quintessential spring flavours on my mind. Namely, lemon and lavender. I just want to make all of the lavender recipes at the moment. That’s where this lemon lavender loaf comes in. It’s the perfect spring time treat and a wonderful cake to make for your Ostara/Spring Equinox celebrations.

This loaf simply tastes and feels like spring and the ingredients have wonderful energetic properties that pair perfectly with the season. Spring is an opportune time for refreshing and cleansing so this recipe really lends itself well to that theme.

This lemon lavender loaf doesn’t have too many ingredients and can be pulled together really quickly. So, let’s go ahead and get into it! You can also check out the video below or on my YouTube Channel HERE

kitchen witch, vegan witch, lemon lavender loaf, holistic nutrition, cottage witch

Lemon Lavender Loaf: Main Magickal Properties

Lemon – longevity, clarity, positivity, success, cleansing, new beginnings, protection, happiness, dreams, spirituality, confidence, motivation, inspiration

Lavender – cleansing, balance, peace, happiness, love, protection, relaxation, longevity

Vanilla – love, passion, beauty, energy, sexuality

Maple Syrup – love, wealth, joy, prosperity

Cane Sugar – love, money, attraction, peace

While preparing your loaf, focus on what you are trying to accomplish. How do you want to feel? What do you want your day to look like? For this recipe, especially in the spring, I will tend to focus my intentions towards cleansing and new beginnings.

You are working with magickal elements and they are transforming throughout this process. Focus on that transformation and give thanks for what these ingredients can offer you and how they can help to manifest your goals as well as nourish you and bring joy.

kitchen witch, kitchen magick, holistic nutrition, witch, witchcraft,

And Now The Recipe!

Makes 8 – 10 slices – Total Prep Time: 20 minutes / Cook Time: 50 – 60 minutes

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups flour (all purpose, whole wheat, or spelt work well)
  • 1 cup lavender sugar (see below for process)
  • 2 – 3 tsp. lavender buds for the sugar
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp. sea salt
  • 1/2 c. softened vegan butter
  • 1 egg replacer
  • 1/2 c. non-dairy milk (oat, almond, cashew, soy)
  • 4 tbsp. fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tsp lemon extract
  • 1 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

Preparation:

  1. Preheat oven to 350 and line or grease your loaf pan.
  2. Mix together your flax egg or egg replacer and set aside to thicken.
  3. Mix together all dry ingredients into in a bowl and set aside.
  4. Now add your butter into the dry ingredients and blend together either with a spatula or electric hand mixture. Mixture should be crumbly.
  5. Now add in all of your wet ingredients saving the flax egg for last.
  6. Pour your batter into your loaf pan and bake for 50 – 60 minutes. A toothpick should come out clean when finished.
  7. Allow to cool fully before removing from pan and slicing. Trying to remove too soon will have the cake turn into a crumbly mess lol.
  8. Prior to eating you may state the following:

“Lavender and lemon, gifts from the earth, bring me joy and cleansed energy as we enter into this brand new season.”

Enjoy with some tea or coffee for a perfect afternoon snack.

To Prepare the Lavender Sugar

Making lavender sugar is super simple. If you just want to make enough for this recipe then simply combine your one cup of sugar with the 2 – 3 teaspoons of lavender buds into a mortar and blend with a pestle for a couple of minutes to release the lavender oils into the sugar. You can also make more as well to have some on hand for your next lavender recipe.

Lavender can be a strong flavour so you really don’t need to add in too much. If it’s your first time making this I would start with 2 teaspoons of the lavender buds to see how you like it and you can add more next time if you prefer a stronger flavour.

If you don’t have a mortar and pestle you can also just add the ingredients to a bowl and blend together with the back of a spoon.

A Simple Kitchen Blessing for Midwinter

Imbolc has just passed and we have officially hit midwinter. Imbolc being the midway point between the Winter Solstice and Spring Equinox. The promise of spring is in the air and it’s the perfect time to refresh some energies within the home with a beautiful kitchen blessing.

This time of year, depending on where you live, you may feel more or less connecting with this turn of the wheel. For many years, living in Canada, I didn’t connect with Imbolc because there was still no sign of life and spring felt very far off. However, as years passed I found myself getting more excited to celebrate midwinter. The more I connected with the season and what it represented the more hopeful and rejuvenating the energy became. Now I really enjoy this time of year! It’s a wonderful time to start looking ahead to warmer days, making plans, and thinking about our gardens if you happen to keep one. To really just enjoy and relish in the fact that with each passing day we are really starting to see the light coming back to us.

Kitchen Blessings

Performing a kitchen blessing every now and then is a great way to refresh the energy within the kitchen and the home. It can lift away stagnant energies and fill the space with a cleansed, calm, and positive atmosphere. I usually like to do a little cleansing ritual followed by a kitchen blessing. Performing these at the marked seasonal changes on the wheel of the year is a great schedule. Of course,  if you follow the wheel of the year that is. I did a similar post to this for the start of winter that was very well received. I decided it would be good to share a version for midwinter as well. So let’s get right into it, shall we!

midwinter, winter witch, seasonal living, kitchen witch, simmer pot recipe, simmer pots, kitchen witchery, seasonal living

Midwinter Kitchen Blessing

Ingredients:

  • 1 tbsp. dried lavender buds for cleansing and balance
  • 1 tbsp. dried lemon verbena for purification and beauty
  • 1 cinnamon stick for success and prosperity
  • 3 lemon slices for happiness and longevity
  • 3 orange slices for good fortune and health
  • 1 tsp Vanilla extract for love and energy

The amounts of each item really just depends on how fragrant you wish it to be as long as all of the ingredients are used the energies will all be included.

Steps:

  1. Cleanse, ground, and prepare your space as needed. Gather your materials.
  2. Fill a pot with water, turn on your burner to medium high, and add in the ingredients one at a time.
  3. Allow the pot to come to a boil.
  4. Reduce to a simmer, stir the contents clockwise while visualizing a happy productive and safe kitchen for the weeks to come. Visualize yourself baking joyfully, blending your morning power smoothies with intention, or preparing a magical meal with a calm and harmonious energy. How would you like your kitchen tasks to look and feel in the coming weeks? Work this desire into your visualization. Continue this exercise until it feels right to finish.
  5. Close your eyes, place your hands above the pot and recite the following or something similar: ‘May the midwinter season bring hope and peace to me. Bless this space with light and positivity.
  6. Open your eyes and allow the pot to simmer for as long as you wish. Could be just 5 minutes or 30 minutes. Let your intuition guide you here.
  7. Once you have turned off your pot, use a strainer or cheese cloth to separate the water into a glass mason jar.
  8. Let the water cool, screw your lid on tight, and place the jar in your fridge (it will keep better for the remainder  of the season).
  9. Now put the strained herbs and lemon slices into a gold or yellow pouch, tie it up, and place in the freezer. These colours will bring the energies of life, abundance, and the sun throughout these next few weeks as the energies grow as we move closer to spring. Upon the arrival of spring you may compost these items and even repeat the process if it becomes a wheel of the year staple activity for you.

Embracing the Seasons

The darker half of the year is often a tough time for many individuals. Embracing those seasonal changes however subtle, incorporating the seasons into your magical practice, and discovering and focusing on the unique things from each season that bring you joy can help immensely with making it through this time of year. As we approach spring, embrace that hopeful energy, take extra time for gentle self care, rest, and just allowing yourself to be.

Try to connect yourself with the season; appreciate, see, hear, and feel the magical awakening happening just outside your door.

Thoughts!

How are you feeling as we hit midwinter? Are kitchen or home blessings something you already include in your practice?

Vegan Vanilla Protein Powder

Adding Magick to Your Morning

Food is magick, always. So let’s harness that and get our day started off with intention, mindfulness, and positivity.

And it just so happens, our smoothie ingredients today have some amazing magickal properties attached to them.

Intention setting while we are preparing our meals is a stellar way to inject some magick into our normal daily routines. I mean we all gotta eat, so why not make it magickal. Practical magick at it’s finest!

Black Forest Smoothie: Main Magickal Properties

Cherries – happiness, love, divination, feminine power

Almond – beauty, goddess energy, prosperity, healing

Banana – prosperity, love, perseverance, spirituality

Cacao – love, money, prosperity, grounding

Cinnamon – success, strength, luck, love, enhanced psychic awareness

Oats – sustainability, wealth, abundance

Spinach – strength (can strengthen your mind, body, and manifestations), money, prosperity, passion

While preparing your smoothie, focus on what you are trying to accomplish. How do you want to feel? What do you want your day to look like? In this case we can focus on sowing ourselves some much needed self love and care.

You are taking magickal elements into your body, take advantage of what they can offer you and how they can help to manifest your goals as well as nourish your holistic self.

Simple Blessing Simmer Pot for the Winter Season

The kitchen is an integral part of the home. It’s where we nourish ourselves, spend time with loved ones, prepare special treats, and maybe even do homework with the kiddos. Performing magic in the kitchen can be a wonderful way to get in touch with nature, live seasonally and connect with your craft on a daily basis. This blessing simmer pot will be a most welcome addition to your winter rituals to help prepare your home for the colder months ahead.

A Note on Kitchen Witchcraft

When preparing for the winter, it is a good practice to give the kitchen a nice clean and declutter. Not just for hygiene purposes, but for peace of mind and a refreshed atmosphere. It’s harder to have energy that flows and is conducive to creating magic in a messy or chaotic feeling space. Keeping the kitchen clean will enable energies to flow more freely and in turn strengthen your own kitchen witch practices. At a time of year where you are likely spending more time in the house and in your kitchen, keeping the energy moving freely will do much for creating a positive space. A space where you and your magic can thrive all season long.

So let’s take a look at our blessing simmer pot shall we?

Blessing Simmer Pot Ritual for the Winter Season

Gather the following ingredients:

  • 3 star anise for protection and clarity
  • 1 tsp. chicory for positivity and cleansing
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg for good luck and prosperity
  • 6 lemon slices for happiness and longevity
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract for love and energy

Note: The amounts of each item can be adjusted depending on how fragrant you wish it to be. You can certainly use less if you’d like.

  1. Cleanse and setup your space as needed.
  2. Take a few deep breathes and clear your mind from outside noise as much as possible.
  3. Add the ingredients slowly, one at a time to the pot. Once they are all in, state the following: ‘May these gifts from the earth bring peace, balance, and happiness to our house and home this season.’
  4. Allow your ingredients to come to a boil and reduce to a simmer.
  5. Stir the pot clockwise while visualizing a happy, productive, and safe kitchen for the weeks to come. Visualize yourself baking joyfully, blending your morning power smoothies with intention, or preparing a Yule feast with a calm and harmonious energy. How would you like your kitchen tasks to look and feel in the coming weeks? Work this desire into your visualization. Continue this exercise until it feels right to finish.
  6. Once finished, recite the following: ‘Bring peace, love, and light with this blessed witches brew. This kitchen be warm the whole winter through.’
  7. Now use a strainer or cheese cloth to separate the water into a glass mason jar.
  8. Let the water cool then place the jar in your fridge (it will keep better for the duration of the season).
  9. Put the strained herbs and lemon slices into a gold pouch, tie it up, and place in the freezer. Gold will bring the energies of life, abundance, and the sun throughout the winter months. You may repeat the process when you feel it’s needed.

When performing this blessing feel free to add in some extra magical touches around your home, play some soothing music, light a blue candle for peace, or burn your favourite incense. Anything you would like to add will only make this ritual more special and more connected with your own unique home and magical practice.

Summing up…

Preparing our kitchen and home for winter can make for a beautiful season of magic making and connecting with your inner spirit and the elements. Feel free to switch up these ingredients if you like in order to better match your own energy and preferences. Make this blessing special for you and the results will definitely show it.

So tell me, do you do anything magical to prepare your home for winter?

Easy Energetic Cleansing Mist for the Autumn Season

Ahhh Autumn! Autumn is a gloriously magical season and an absolute perfect time to cleanse your space both physically and energetically. I actually prefer autumn cleaning to spring cleaning. I enjoy the process of preparing my space for the winter months. So today we are going to talk about using cleansing mists for this purpose along with a delicious Autumn themed recipe.

There are several easy ways to energetically cleanse your space, whether you feel the space needs it or as a standard practice prior to performing magical work. You may use incense such as lavender, rosemary, or lemon balm, a cleansing mist as we will go through today, sound from bells or cymbals, or by placing cleansing crystals in your space such as clear quartz or citrine. Those are a few ways anyhow. But let’s get into the topic for today, cleansing mist.

Autumn Cleansing Mist Recipe & Process

So while it’s nice to do longer thorough cleansing rituals sometimes you will need something quick and easy. You may not always have sufficient time to perform a full on ritual, or  a thorough cleansing isn’t entirely needed. Perhaps something negative occurred in the space and you want an immediate little refresh. Cleansing mists are perfect for that!

Plus, who doesn’t love a wonderful smelling room spray. And once you know the process of making them, they are incredible for so many things such clearing energies, uplifting the mood, relaxation, or just for the fragrance of it all! You’ll be creating your own blends in no time.

Multi-purpose and super easy to make. You will need witch hazel, the listed essential oils for each, a 100 ml spray bottle, water. I prefer distilled water as it is less likely to leave water spots on things when sprayed.

Full Ingredient List:

  • 1⁄2 teaspoon vegetable glycerin
  • 4-ounce dark glass spray bottle
  • 9 drops clary sage essential oil for purification & grounding
  • 9 drops grapefruit essential oil for cleansing & clarity
  • 5 drops sweet orange essential oil for positivity
  • 2 tablespoons chamomile water for purification & harmony
  • 2 tablespoons witch hazel
  • 3 tablespoons distilled water

Steps to Prepare:

  1. Choose your workspace. Prior to making you should prepare this space for magical work. Cleanse, ground, and center yourself as needed.
  2. Clear your mind of any outside noise. Take deep breathes and allow any negative energy to leave your body. You should feel balanced and focused on the intention and task at hand before you begin.
  3. Once you feel ready, add the vegetable glycerin into the bottle first.
  4. Then add in each oil individually and recite the following lines for each individual oil as you add them into the bottle, ‘Clary Sage, purify this space. Grapefruit, cleanse this space. Sweet Orange, bring positivity to this space.’
  5. Now add in the chamomile water, witch hazel, and distilled water. Place the cap on.
  6. As you shake the bottle recite the following, ‘Gifts from the earth within this spray, may you move the negative energies away. Bring breath to the space and set it free.  Clear and cleansed it shall be.’
  7. Spray three times whenever you feel a room needs a little clearing out. Always shake before using to ensure ingredients are properly mixed. Separation is natural.

In Conclusion

Magical mists are practical, powerful, and versatile tools for a witch to have on hand for various intentions. If this is your first mist, consider what other intentions you would benefit from having a mist on hand for. Happiness, energy, balance? So many options!

So tell me, do you enjoy using magical mists in your practice? If so, what’s your favourite one?
