Ease Anxiety with These 8 Powerful Spiritual Practices

So let’s be honest—this world can be a lot. The phone notifications, the endless to-do lists, the energy of everyone else moving through your environment, stressful news, hustle culture, the hardships we experience in our own lives… It’s no wonder so many of us are walking around with our nervous systems constantly in overdrive, feeling like we’re always just one step away from a full-on meltdown. Enter days and weeks of feeling anxious, every single day. So, if this sounds familiar, these 8 spiritual practices to ease anxiety can be really helpful so keep on reading!

QUICK NOTE: These tips are simply based on my own personal experiences and research. I am not a doctor, psychologist, or therapist. If you are struggling, please always seek out professional medical attention. 💖

There are so many beautiful, nourishing spiritual practices that can help you return to yourself, quiet the inner chaos, and anchor into peace. And, it’s not about suppressing your feelings or pretending everything is sparkles and rainbows all the time. It’s about meeting yourself in love, acknowledging your emotions and thoughts, then guiding yourself back to a place of calm.

So, brew your favourite beverage, take a comfy seat, and let’s explore some of my favourite spiritual practices to soothe anxiety and bring onto ourselves some well deserved peace.

When anxiety starts to spiral, grounding is an excellent go to. It’s like energetically connecting yourself back to the calm cycles of the Earth.

Try this practice:
Take a walk barefoot on grass, soil, or sand. With every step, imagine roots extending from your feet deep into the earth. Feel her holding you, steadying you, reminding you that you are safe and supported.

If you are able to get outside in the moment, place a small stone (like black tourmaline, smoky quartz, or hematite) in your hand. Close your eyes. Breathe deeply. Let its weight anchor you. Recite to yourself,  I am grounded, safe, and at peace.

Sometimes anxiety isn’t just yours—it could be energetic clutter from others, environmental stress, or leftover tense energies that are just a little stuck within you.

Cleanse your space and self with:

  • Smoke: Burn ethically sourced herb bundles—or try a smoke-free option like a cleansing spray with essential oils and witch hazel, a calming simmer pot, or a diffuser.
  • Sound: Ring a bell, chime, or sing bowl in each corner of your space. Or just clap your hands with intention. Let the vibrations shake loose stuck energy.
  • Water: Water is so cleansing. Hydrate yourself and imagine the water you are taking in washing away any negative energies that you have built up inside or enjoy a cleansing bath or shower moment. More on that below.

As you do any of these things, set the intention: I release all energy that doesn’t belong to me. I open myself to peace, light, and clarity.

The moon has such a powerful pull in this world—not just on the tides, but on our emotional world. Working with her phases can be deeply healing when you’re feeling anxious or emotionally raw.

Best moon phase for anxiety?
The waning moon—the time after the full moon when energy is turning inward—is ideal for letting go, slowing down, and releasing what is no longer serving your highest self.

Try this simple moon ritual:

  • Sit under the moonlight with a journal and write down everything you’re holding onto that’s fueling your anxiety.
  • Then (safely!) burn the paper, visualizing the smoke carrying your worries away.
  • End by placing your hand on your heart and saying: I am safe. I am free. I am whole.

An anxious mind often thrives in the realm of the unknown. What if this happens? What if that doesn’t? Oh, the spirals and chaotic journeys we can take ourselves on constantly either living in the past or living in the future.

A gentle daily tarot or oracle card pull can be a wonderful ally for gaining a little wisdom and focus for the day ahead—and a wonderful way to tune into your intuition and remember that you are guided and protected.

How to do it:
Each morning, shuffle your favorite deck while asking: What do I need to know today to feel calm and connected?
Pull a card, write down its meaning and journal your own reflections. You might be amazed at how often the messages are exactly what your soul needed to hear.

Not into cards? Try pulling a rune, flipping open a favorite spiritual book to a random page, or using a daily affirmation deck instead.

These techniques can be very underrated or overlooked by many—and when you add real focus and intention into them you are looking at some serious game changers when it comes to how you handle your anxiety and how often it creeps up.

Try this breath-work spell:

  • Inhale deeply for a count of four.
  • As you inhale, imagine a calming color (like soft blue or shimmering gold) filling your body.
  • Hold for four counts, feeling that calm settle in your bones.
  • Exhale for a count of six, releasing all tension, static, and stress.
  • Repeat for a few rounds.

To amplify the effect, light a candle and imagine the flame representing your inner peace—steadfast, bright, and unwavering.

I also really encourage you to try and start a daily meditation practice for yourself. Even just 5 minutes a day can make such a difference on keeping your nervous system in check. If starting a practice is a challenge for you watch this video on my meditation practice recommendations (as someone who previously hated meditating) HERE.

And we’re back to water! Water is such a powerful ally for clearing out emotional and energetic overwhelm.

Ritual bath idea:

  • Add sea salt, lavender oil, and a few rose petals to your bath. You can also bring in some crystals, a candle or some soothing music into your space.
  • As you soak, visualize your worries dissolving into the water or lifting from your body up into the aether.
  • Speak affirmations to yourself as you do this. Such as, I am cleansed, uplifted, and renewed.
  • When you’re done, let the water drain away with gratitude.

You can also do this in the shower for an equally magical experience. Imagine the water washing away anxiety and negativity as it flows over you. You can also consider using a soap or body wash with cleansing intentions placed on it and even one infused with your favourite oils or herbs.

Sometimes you need a sacred space that instantly helps you relax, body, mind, and spirit.

How to create one:
Find a small space—could be a shelf, corner, or even just a tray. Add items that soothe your spirit and hold calming energetic properties:

  • Crystals like amethyst or lepidolite
  • Calming herbs (lavender, chamomile, mugwort)
  • A candle, incense, or oil diffuser
  • A photo, affirmation, or statue that brings you peace

Sit with your altar daily, even just for a few minutes. Let it become your safe space, where you are able to take a few minutes, just be with your thoughts, show gratitude and give thanks for all the blessings in your life.

This one’s simple, but powerful. Each day, or maybe as part of your morning routine, grab your journal and a pen and journal about how you are feeling, what’s been o your mind, and anything that has been causing you stress and anxiety. You may want to ask yourself things like:

  • How does my spirit feel today?
  • What in my life right now is causing me to feel anxious?
  • What do I need to feel supported?

Then just start writing. Your intuition is wise. You may not even need those initial questions. The benefits of journalling are vast and it can bring you so much clarity, focus, wisdom, and aha moments about your life, where you are at right now, and where you want to be going. I can almost guarantee you will be in. a better place at the ned of your journalling session than you were at the start of it.

In the Moment…

  • Recognize anxiety is taking over
  • Ground myself and focus on my breath
  • I visualize myself in a calming special place (create one of your very own that you can go to)

Daily Things I lean into most…

  • wearing calming crystals such as amethyst, rose quartz, or malachite
  • doing daily card pulls
  • journalling
  • having morning and night routines
  • getting adequate rest
  • eating well
  • regular movement
  • using calming mists that include things like lavender, chamomile, or lemongrass

If you have been struggling with anxiety please remember:

You are not broken. You are not failing.
You are a deeply sensitive, beautifully tuned-in being living in a chaotic world—and you’ve probably been through some things. Give yourself grace, support yourself, love yourself, and care for yourself well.

And go ahead and try out one (or all!) of these practices. Let them become part of your own magical tool kit. And remember, you’re never alone on this journey—always be open and willing to ask for help when you need it.
